Dell G5 15 SE gaming laptop
Dell G5 15 SE is a focused gaming laptop. Though it is not the best gaming laptop out there, it is one of the better ones for its price range in the market. As it has an AMD Ryzen processor and the RX 5600 M GPU, along with good RAM, NVMe SSD, and a display with 144Hz refresh rate, this Dell gaming could outperform other laptops from the price range it belongs to.
CPU and Performance
In this G5 15 SE laptop, you get a 7 nm AMD chip, one of the efficient and fastest CPU Ryzen 7 4800H based on zen2 architecture. This processor is a 45W processor that counters Intel’s Core i7-10875H. This AMD CPU has 8 cores and 16 threads. This is 2.9 GHz with a total of 12 MB cache up to 4.2 GHz.
If you are low in your budget, then you can opt for the base version of the G5, which has a Ryzen 5 4600H CPU.
GPU and Memory
The Dell G5 15 comes along with the AMD Radeon RX 5600 M GPU with 6GB memory GDDR6. This is a mid-range GPU, and might not be a superior performer like Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060. But AMD’s new SmartShift feature can enhance the power between CPU and GPU depending on the need. According to the DELL, this mechanism is integrated within BIOS itself, so it is difficult to say how it actually works.
Along with the graphics with this laptop, you will be able to do your daily business and professional activities with ease as it is packed with a 16 GB DDR4 ram. This ram is divided into 2 slots of 8 GB, which allows users to upgrade accordingly. It also has a 512 GB NVMe SSD which allows it to perform even faster.
Display
The higher-end version of the DELL G5 15 SE has a 15-inch-wide angle VA display, with a resolution of 1920X1080, along with a 144 Hz refresh rate.
On the other hand, this laptop’s base model comes with a 60 Hz refresh rate display.
Battery
This laptop has a 51 Wh three-cell battery. It can give you a moderate battery life of around 3 hours in better battery mode. Dell said that they would improve software performance through updates that will improve battery life.
Keyboard and touchpad
This laptop has a backlit keyboard. Though it is not that clicky, you might want to use your own keyboard. The trackpad, though it supports Windows Precision drivers for intuitive scrolling and gestures, is way too small.
Ports
The Dell G5 15 SE’s ports are comprehensive for the value. This laptop features a power plug, an SD card reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, Ethernet, and a USB-C port with DisplayPort for supported monitors.
Design and Build Quality
In design-wise, this laptop is a bulky one weighing a hefty 5.5 pounds. So, you might not feel comfortable carrying it around. Another down point is that it has an all-plastic body. So you have to be careful while using it.
Final Thought
The Dell G5 15 SE is a great laptop to have. If you are low on budget and want a gaming laptop for 1000 bucks, then it is the one. By compromising little in design and build quality, you can have a great performance and video experience with its high-end features.
